Beach Elopement
Locations
Nothing says romance like a beach
wedding!
Beaches are some of the most popular venues for weddings and
elopements. Why? Why not? They're beautiful and romantic, and,
depending on the beach, often free to use for a small wedding
party. Even if there is a small fee for a permit, you can often
find a wedding officiant who will perform a simple wedding
ceremony on a public beach for under $300. Not bad for a
wedding with a great view!
Below are some of our favorite spots for beach elopement
weddings:
Catalina Island -
California
Catalina is high on our list for beach elopement ceremonies
because it is, after all, the "Island of Romance," as well as
the fact that there are so many wedding vendors available at
very reasonable prices to lead you through your "I Do's" at any
number of secluded and romantic spots with the ocean as your
backdrop.
Destin -
Florida
Destin, Florida is part of Florida's Emerald Coast, which
features destinations such as Destin, Fort Walton Beach and
Okaloosa Island. Some consider this area of Florida home to
some of the best beaches in the world, with 24 miles of
powder-soft beaches. The beaches in Destin are public; no
permits are required.
Jekyll Island -
Georgia
Want your wedding on an unspoiled beach? Then you might want
to consider Jekyll Island, one of Georgia's barrier islands. We
say it's unspoiled because over 60% of it is undeveloped. In
fact, Jekyll Island is restricted by law to only 35% of the
island allowed to be developed. Jekyll Island has public access
beaches which require no reservations or fees for small
gatherings with no catering or sound systems.
Ocracoke Island -
North Carolina
Accessible only by water or air, Ocracoke Island is the
southernmost island on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Not
only are the beaches awesome, but they're also healthy. In
fact, Ocracoke has landed on the top 10 beaches list of "Dr.
Beach" for years. In case you don't know, Dr. Beach (otherwise
known as Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, Director of Florida
International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research)
researches American beaches and once a year comes out with a
"Top 10" list of the healthiest beaches.
Seven Mile Beach
- Negril, Jamaica
Considered one of the finest beaches in the world, Seven
Mile Beach is also home to some great inclusive resorts with
fairly inexpensive elopement packages, including The Grand Lido
Negril and Hedonism II, which offer a wedding package starting
at just $2,690 per couple for a five-night minimum stay which
includes a comprehensive free wedding package.
St. Thomas - U.S.
Virgin Islands
St. Thomas is located in the U.S. Virgin Islands, an
absolutely gorgeous Caribbean venue which requires no passport
for U.S. citizens and has the U.S. dollar as their currency.
The Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, located right on the beach,
offers many all-inclusive wedding packages to make your wedding
planning easier.
Mount Desert Island -
Maine
What's so special about Mount Desert Island in Maine? The
beaches, the vistas, and Acadia National Park are just a few of
the reasons why you should consider Mount Desert Island for
your beach elopement. Another reason is the number of "Best of"
lists which Mount Desert Island finds itself on year after
year.
Cape Breton - Nova
Scotia
If you're located outside Canada or the Northeastern United
States, you might not be familiar with Cape Breton Island in
Nova Scotia. But, apparently enough people have visited this
beautiful destination to have voted it one of the "Top North
American Islands" in the 2006 Reader's Choice Awards for Conde'
Naste Traveler magazine. In 2006 Travel + Leisure ranked Cape
Breton Island as the #1 island in the Continental U.S. and
Canada.

Vancouver Island -
Vancouver
Known as "Canada's Paradise on the Pacific," Vancouver
Island is known for its beauty – year-round blooming gardens,
lush rainforests, beaches, rocky shorelines - as well as the
"quintessentially-British" city of Victoria, with its high
teas, double-decker buses and horse-drawn carriages. A wedding
here will certainly give couples a wide range of
experiences.
