Where to Elope in Ohio

Hocking Hills, Cincinnati, more!

Ohio is a state of contrasts. Its position linking the American Northeast to the Midwest makes it a key transportation and business hub, so there are a number of large cities in the state. It also borders beautiful Lake Erie and sits at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, making for a variety of recreation options and some lovely scenery. Whether you want to elope in the city or in an unspoiled natural setting, you can find plenty of places to do so in Ohio.

Ohio’s wedding laws make it fairly easy to elope there. Couples 21 years of age and over who haven’t previously been married need only a government-issued ID and their Social Security numbers to obtain a marriage license, and there is no blood test or waiting period. Some of the best places to elope in Ohio include:

• Cincinnati – Located on the borders of Kentucky and Indiana, the Cincinnati area is a great place to elope for couples from those states. As one of the Midwest’s first major cities, it is notable for its many historic buildings, including the Carew Tower and the Isaac M. Wise Temple. Couples can elope on the Ohio River with BB Riverboats, which offers affordable ceremony packages (a Kentucky marriage license is required). The city’s parks host a number of facilities ideal for a wedding ceremony, including Eden Park’s Hinkle Gazebo, the Braam Memorial Garden Gazebo in Mt. Airy Forest’s arboretum and the Temple of Love in Mt. Storm Park. Moonlite Gardens at Coney Island Amusement Park is yet another great setting in the city.

• Toledo – Toledo is filled with attractions that appeal to the cultured couple, including the Stranahan Theater and the internationally acclaimed Toledo Museum of Art. Among the city’s best wedding venues is Courtyard at the Docks, which features amazing waterfront views. Twylite Terrace at The Pinnacle is another popular and elegant venue. Oak Shade Grove offers affordable indoor and outdoor rentals, and Crystal Manor has fantastic views of the Maumee River.

• Hocking Hills – For those who prefer a more rural setting, Hocking Hills is an ideal place for an elopement. A Georgian Manner is an excellent venue that offers inexpensive wedding packages in a lovely lakeside setting. Hocking Hills Wedding Chapel has a quaint log chapel and gazebo. Ash Cave is a wonderful ceremony setting that makes for beautiful wedding photos. The Inn at Cedar Falls has several venue choices and a full-service spa.

• Amish Country – If you’re looking for a truly primitive destination, you can’t beat Ohio’s Amish Country. Donna’s of Berlin offers a beautiful stone cabin with indoor and outdoor waterfalls and affordable elopement packages within walking distance of downtown. White Oak Inn has a wonderful wedding gazebo and luxurious accommodations. Other fine venue options include Berlin Hotel and Suites and Carlisle Inn.

Ohio is a great place for a couple to begin their lives together. Deciding to elope in the state is easy – the hard part is choosing from the many excellent venues!
